When sprayed or brushed on your home, PeneTreat, a borate-based wood preservative, forms a shell of protection to defend against rot, most wood-destroying insects and fungi. PeneTreat is a powder that is mixed with water and is low in toxicity to humans and animals. It is also EPA-approved. PeneTreat will not effect the color of wood, interfere with stain or caulk adhesion, and is completely odorless. Low cost and easy application make PeneTreat the popular choice. Once applied Penetreat to wood, surface must be protected from direct contact with moisture so that the Penetreat does not leach out, use a good quality paint or stain to protect Penetreat's active ingredient. Apply Penetreat at the rate of 1 gallon per 150 sq. feet of surface area by brush or sprayer. A 3 1/2 gallon pail of Penetreat will yield 15 gallons of 10% soulution and cover up to 2250 sq. feet of log surface. Penetreat is not a contact killer, which means that insects must ingest treated wood to be killed. In large logs and timbers all pre-existing insect larva may not be killed. Upon maturing they may emerge from the wood. Further infestations will be prevented however.
